"Master Data Management: Building a Foundation for Success" & "Managing the Warehouse
Through Major Changes: Mergers and Acquisitions = New SORs"
Connect, Share and Learn at the St. Louis TDWI Chapter Meeting
Sponsored by Amitech Solutions, Inc.
ST. LOUIS MISSOURI (April 26, 2010) - Effectively leveraging data is critical
when it comes to growing your business, connecting to customers, and improving business
performance. Learn how to use your companys data for a competitive edge in
the marketplace with expert advice from John Ladley, EIM Lead for IMCue and respected
business technology thought leader with more than 30 years of experience in planning,
project management and information systems.
John Ladley is a widely published author, data warehouse pioneer and recognized
authority on the use and implementation of business intelligence. He will share
his knowledge of how Master Data Management (MDM) can enable organizations to find
new and better ways to explore, understand and act upon information for a competitive
advantage. Ladley will describe the elements of a sustainable MDM initiative including,
infrastructure, people and processes, Ladley will talk about the challenges your
company may face with an MDM initiative and then provide you with tools to overcome
these challenges and build a foundation for corporate success.
Attendees will:
- Obtain a deeper understating of MDM.
- Learn how to use MDM as a strategic asset; a function of infrastructure, people
and processes.
- Discover how MDM architecture is the essential foundation for corporate performance.
- Understand how data governance impacts the MDM program.
The St. Louis area has experienced more merger and acquisition activity in the last
decade than almost any other city in the country. Through it all, the historical
data from both firms must be preserved and remain accessible to support the needs
of business on a go-forward basis. Join Scott for an interactive discussion about
how to manage the data warehouse through major changes like mergers, acquisitions,
and new systems of record (SORs). Scott will share his experiences leading several
different organizations through the technical and organizational challenges of combining
the historical data from two distinct companies into a unified data warehouse. He
will also encourage the audience to share their experiences so that we can leverage
the lessons learned among the practitioners within the TDWI chapter.
Scott Wilton leads the Data Design team at Wells Fargo Advisors and has 12-years
of data warehousing experience in both industry and consulting. Scott has had leadership
roles in all disciplines within the warehousing space (data governance, modeling,
ETL, BI, and testing/data quality) and had managed 4 different large data warehouse
environments through major re-platforming events. Scott has an MBA from the University
of Michigan specializing in Corporate Strategy and Information Systems.
Topics will include:
- Fork-lifting history to the retained DW platform for legal & compliance usage
- Commingling history into the go-forward data structures for combined reporting and
analytics
- Technical challenges: DBMS differences, huge data volumes, complex transformation
rules, narrow conversion windows, etc.
- Source system changes: data profiling, implicit business rules, managing conversion
events, etc.
The special session will be held on Friday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the
Wells Fargo Learning Center (1 North Jefferson Street, St. Louis, Missouri). This
exclusive event is free of charge and breakfast will be served; however, seating
