Robert Palmer, managing director of Amitech Solutions, shares his expertise on both
the art and science of predictive analytics with other professionals in the St.
Louis area
ST. LOUIS MISSOURI (Jan. 11, 2010) - Robert Palmer, managing director of Amitech
Solutions, will present "The Art and Science of Predictive Analytics" at the quarterly
meeting of the St. Louis Chapter of the Data Warehouse Institute (TDWI) professionals
meeting at 8 a.m. on Jan. 29, at City Place Auditorium, 1 City Place Drive, Creve
Coeur, Missouri. The event is free and open to all interested business intelligence
and data warehouse professionals.
According to Palmer, "Businesses constantly operate under overwhelming conditions
of uncertainty including changing customer preferences, swift technology advances,
tough economic times and political upheavals. These changes take their toll. And,
although businesses are aware that these changes are happening, they spend much
of their time analyzing historical data without much regard to what is coming next."
Palmers presentation will outline how businesses can use forecasting and analytics
to make "deliberate decisions" to shape the future. He will discuss forecasting
and analytics methods that allow decision makers to accurately predict the probability
of and quantify outcomes specifically related to using "what if" analysis, and analytics
to reveal hidden relationships, patterns and potential areas for improvement. Decision
makers then can use this information to determine the probable sources of growth
or decline, profitability or loss, and define where the business might focus its
resources.
Those attending Palmers presentation will be able to:
- Learn the value of forecasting
- See real examples of how "Decision Tree" and "Monte Carlo" have been used for planning
and risk mitigation
- Learn how to leverage forecasting and analytics to define key performance indicators
and generate robust strategic plans
"Robert is one of the leading experts in the region on predictive analytics, and
I think the members of TDWI and others who attend this presentation will come away
from this session with a better understanding of how predictive analytics can be
used to create effective long-term business strategies," said Amit Bhagat, president
of Amitech Solutions.
In addition to his role as managing director of Amitech Solutions and co-founder
of the Cardiac Services Consulting Group, Palmer has developed numerous business
valuation predictive models. He has extensive business valuation experience related
to the medical field, technology services, and financial sectors. He holds a Masters
of Business Administration with a specialization in finance from Washington University
in St. Louis, Olin School of Business, and a bachelors degree in business administration
with an emphasis in finance from Regis University. He is an adjunct faculty with
the Hatchery Program, Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Washington
University in St. Louis, Olin School of Business, and a frequent lecturer on matters
of valuation, business planning and modeling.
